Astigmatism-Correcting IOLs

Astigmatism-correcting lenses (toric IOLs) are premium IOLs that specifically treat corneal astigmatism. Therefore, they are designed to decrease your dependence on glasses. If you have an astigmatism, light rays are never properly focused on the retina. Rather, light is focused at two different points. Therefore, your vision will be blurry at every functional distance (distance, intermediate and near). These lenses help bring the different points of focus together on the retina to achieve clear vision.

The placement of these lenses is very important, because the astigmatism correction in the IOL must be precisely located in order to provide the intended effect. Sometimes, these lenses rotate and have to be returned to the correct position during an additional surgical procedure.
